Christianity…

Christianity is not merely a philosophy, or another world view among many, it’s so much more: it’s a relationship with Almighty God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (three persons in one). God is not a distant concept to be studied from afar, he has reached out to us, that we might experience him, his love, peace, joy, wisdom and life giving presence.

Christianity is about an experience of God: (whom is the very definition of Love), in the person of Jesus Christ. We all have an idea of what love is. But it is only as we enter the journey that is a relationship with God, that we begin to understand what love truly is and the life giving experience it is; not just for us, but for all whom are in our lives. There will be ups and downs, but with this relationship at the core of who we are, we will always pull through, in his strength.

A life submitted to God doesn’t mean that we sit back and expect him to do everything. But moving forward, placing our trust in him, seeking to live by his word and being open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we will grow and begin to see him at work in and through our lives.

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through him. The Holy Spirit came that we might experience him and know him (close). Waiting on and being dependant on God is not a passive thing, but a active choice of the heart, will and mind. There is a fine balance to be found between relying on God and using our God given abilities to move forward in life; a balance that can only be learnt as part of a journey – through trial and error, honestly crying out to God, being totally open to him and moving forward placing our trust firmly in him.

The Bible, it is the primary way through which God speaks to us today. But when it was originally given to us, it was not done so for the purpose of private reading. Don’t get me wrong, spending time alone with God in his word (and prayer) is important. But if that is the full (or majority) extent of our experience, we are missing out. It was written to be experienced in community. Read, discussed and lived out. Let’s not limit the power of God’s word (if that’s even possible), by keeping it to ourselves or relying on our own interpretation of it, let’s live it and experience it together – sharing it in who we are and how we live our lives.

The Bible says that we were created in God’s image. God is a spiritual being, so this is not referring to physical but characteristical image. For example, God is the very definition of Good, so we all have the potential for good in us. But because we (mankind), chose to turn our backs on God (sin) at the beginning, God’s image in us is broken, we are all broken people, in need of his loving/restorative power. Being a Christian doesn’t mean that we have it all together and always get it right…but we are getting to know the one that does…
